About Birthdex

Birthdex is a free reference for what your birth date means. Enter a birthday and it gathers the zodiac sign, birthstone and birth flower into one clean profile, then lets you save a shareable card. No ads, no sign-up, no tracking.

Why we built it

The facts about a birthday are scattered across jewelry shops, astrology portals and gardening blogs, most of them cluttered with ads or trying to sell you something. We wanted one calm, fast place that just answers the question and lets you move on. Everything is worked out in your browser from static reference data, so it loads instantly and works offline.

Who is behind it

Birthdex is written and maintained by Jamey Weber, editor and developer at FusionStudios, a Dutch web studio that also builds and runs a set of other free reference tools. There is one person making the editorial decisions here, and mail sent to hello@birthdex.net reaches them. If something on this site is wrong, that is the address to use, and corrections are made with the review date updated.

How we treat the content

The day-of-week calculation is arithmetic and is covered by tests. The zodiac date ranges are a convention, and a rounded one: the real boundary moves by up to a day between years, which we say plainly rather than hiding. Birthstones and birth flowers follow the widely used modern and traditional lists, with older alternatives noted where they exist. The personality and compatibility notes are a cultural tradition, offered for interest and fun, never as prediction, advice or anything medical. Nothing here claims that a birth date determines anyone's character, health or future.

Where a claim rests on data we have not read ourselves, we label it as unverified on the page rather than attaching a source we did not check. The full reasoning, including the parts we cannot source, is on the methodology page.

Open data

Because the data is useful on its own, we publish it as a free JSON API anyone can build on, and offer an embeddable widget for your own site. Both are free to use.
